USAF Flight Line Training – Ramstein Practice Test

Locational signs tell you exactly where you are on the airfield. They use a black background with yellow lettering and a yellow border so they’re highly visible against pavement and easy to read at a glance. The purpose is to inform drivers and pilots of your current location on the movement area (the taxiways, ramps, or segments you’re on), helping you confirm you’re on the correct route. This differs from direction signs, which guide you toward a destination and use a yellow background with black lettering. Other color schemes don’t match the standard function of indicating your present position, so the black background with yellow lettering is the best fit for locational signs.
